We have some exciting events coming up! Our Annual Fish Fry & Legislative Affairs Dinner will be held at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds on Thursday, April 23. HBA events slated for the next few months also include: $10,000 Raffle on July 23 at the Hasan Temple, Associates Council Mix & Mingle on August 6, and Steak Dinner & Installation of Officers on August 27. Plans are also underway for a new fundraising event and social, "Raffle Prizes Give Away!!!" Mix & Mingle, which will take place on August 6 at Lighting & Flooring. This event is presented by our newly formed Associates Council, and promises to be a great networking social for all of our members. Look for details about the event in this newsletter. The $10,000 Reverse Raffle, which is our largest fundraising effort during the year, will be held on July 23 at the Hasan Temple. Tickets go on sale in May for a chance to win $10,000. An evening of entertainment, dancing, and BBQ dinner will be held in conjunction with the Reverse Raffle. You won't want to miss it. Thank you to everyone who participated in HBA's "Call to Action" in favor of House Bill 261. The bill passed the Senate on March 26 by a vote of 42 to 4. HB 261 authorizes an income tax credit for a limited period of time for the purchase of any single-family residence. The bill will now be sent to a conference committee to work out the differences between the Senate version and House version of the bill. As always, if you have suggestions, concerns, or comments pertaining to our industry in Lee County, remember that you can contact me and I will discuss those issues during regularly held meetings with the Lee County Commissioners and department heads. We have several newly formed committees, like the Public Relations Committee, at work on HBA's goals and strategies as outlined in our recently adopted strategic plan. I encourage you to become involved by participating on at least one of these committees, if not on more than one. Mary has outlined a list of these committees in this newsletter, so please review it, call her and get involved. I want to personally welcome our newest members that have joined the Association since January 1st: Ken Drawdy Construction LLC, Mr. Mr. Ken Drawdy; Weeks Builders, Mr. Gaston Weeks; Habitat for Humanity International, Mr. Kevin Campbell; and Advantage Vinyl Siding & Roofing, LLC, Mr. David Kehren. Even though no final decisions have been adopted by the board, I want our members to know that we will try and accommodate partial dues payments in the future for those businesses that need to make their membership dues payments in installments. We are still "working out the kinks" in the system, but please know that the HBA board is sensitive to this issue during this difficult economic climate. We are working hard to keep our members up to date, and this is one strategy we have taken to heart. More details will be released on this issue after our April board. In the meantime, if you need to discuss your membership dues or a payment plan, please just give Mary at call at the office and she will be happy to assist you. All payments plans will be kept in confidence on your behalf. Remember, to DO BUSINESS WITH A MEMBER!!!! I especially want to thank board member Jill Oliver, owner of Safe Security, Inc., for donating the "Do Business with a Member" banner for all of our meetings. The Do Business with a Member campaign promotes strengthening the business relationships between builder and associate members on the local, state, and national levels. Thank you so much for all of you who are active and participate in our association. I encourage you to attend meetings and participate in our fundraising events throughout the year. As always, I want you to know that this association is here for you, its members, and I challenge you to become involved. I look forward to seeing you at the Fish Fry.
Sincerely, Jack
