Deron R. Hicks General Counsel Home Builders Association of Georgia
Deron is a graduate of the University of Georgia (1990) and Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University (cum laude 1993). After graduation from law school, Deron was a law clerk, Honorable Wilbur D. Owens, United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Georgia. In 1995, Deron entered private practice in Columbus, Georgia. From 1998 to September 2007, Deron was a partner with the law firm of Page, Scrantom, Sprouse, Tucker & Ford, P.C. Deron served as chairman of the firm litigation practice group for three years. Deron became general counsel for the Home Builders Association of Georgia in October 2007. Deron has also been an Adjunct Professor at Mercer Law School since 2001.
From 2001-2006, Deron served as a grader for the State of Georgia Board of Bar Examiners. Deron is currently the Chairman of the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
In 2005, Deron was recognized by Georgia Trend magazine in its “Forty Under Forty -- The Best and the Brightest” edition.
Deron has published numerous articles and papers in his career. Deron has been the author or co-author of the Torts survey article in Annual Survey of Georgia Law ten times. Deron also co-authored to book Georgia Law of Torts: Preparation for Trial, published by Harrison Publishing Company in 1996. Deron has written papers on a number of different topics, including torts, legal immunities, local regulatory fees, impact fees, premises liability, post trial practice, medical records, legal writing, and local government moratoriums, among others.
Over the last ten years, Deron has been a frequent speaker at state and local builders associations on a wide variety of topics of concern to the homebuilding industry.
Deron has been married to the lovely Angela Hicks since 1995. They have two children – Meg and Parker – and reside in Warm Springs, Georgia.
